As the person with PWS matures into adulthood, some people find that behaviours and other challenges begin to mellow. For others, there be issues to contend with such as leaving home and how that affects independence.
Weight control continues to be a problem for most adults with PWS, and all the problems which accompany obesity will increase if weight is not managed. Life expectancy is increasing for people with PWS - the oldest living person known to the Association is 74 - but sadly there are still many who are dying in their 20s, 30s and 40s from obesity-related diseases.
You can find out more about the above topics in our special handbook, Adults with PWS - A Handbook for Parents and Carers. The first copy is free to parents. As it is a 48 page, full colour, publication, it is not available online. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
