Residential care and supported living - information for providers
It is rare for a person with PWS to live completely independently - most adults will either stay with their family or move into residential care or supported living. If you are a provider, you may find the following information helpful.
Click on the links below to download the information you need:
- Information for residential care and supported living staff (PDF)
- Important considerations for supported living (PDF)
- Good Health checklist for adults (PDF)
- Meeting nutritional needs in residential care (PDF)
- See Me, Not Just Prader-Willi Syndrome Booklet
If you are setting up a residential care home for those with PWS, then this means you will become a 'service provider' and must therefore register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Upholding standards: The PWSA UK Care Provider Charter
In December 2025, PWSA UK published the Charter of Minimum Standards for Care Providers Supporting Individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome.
This charter sets out the minimum standards that providers commit to in order to deliver safe, effective, compassionate and person-centred care for people with PWS.
By signing the charter, providers confirm their commitment to upholding these standards and promoting the dignity, wellbeing and quality of life of individuals with PWS.
We maintain a PWS care provider list, to enable families and commissioners to make informed choices when searching for settings which support people with PWS.
On the provider list, we have indicated which providers have signed this charter and committed to upholding these standards. We have also included those providers who have yet to sign it.
If your setting has not yet signed the charter, please contact admin@pwsa.co.uk to find out how we can support you through this process.
